How to Choose a Pool & Landscape Company
3 March 2026 · 7 min read

Building a pool and garden is one of the larger investments a homeowner makes, and it is largely irreversible once construction begins. So choosing the right pool and landscape company in Abu Dhabi matters more than almost any single design decision. The challenge is that every firm will tell you they do excellent work, which makes it hard to compare them honestly. This guide is written to help you look past the brochure and judge a company on what actually predicts a good outcome. Use it as a checklist, whoever you ultimately hire.
Look for a clear, staged process
The first thing to ask any pool and landscape company in Abu Dhabi is simply: what is your process, and what happens at each stage? A serious firm should be able to describe how it moves from understanding your site and brief, through design, into finalised details, and only then into construction. Vague answers, or an eagerness to start digging before the design is resolved, are a warning sign.
A staged process protects you because it moves decisions, and changes, into the drawing phase where they are cheap, rather than the build phase where they are costly and disruptive. If you want a sense of what good looks like, our own four-stage design process is one example of how this can be structured.
Judge the portfolio honestly
Photos are easy to stage, so look deeper. Ask to see completed projects that have weathered a few Gulf summers, not just freshly finished ones. The real test of a garden or pool is how it looks and functions after time, sun and use.
- Are the projects similar in scale and ambition to yours?
- Do the details, edges, junctions, planting, look resolved and intentional?
- Can the company show work in your climate, not imported from a cooler region?
- Will they connect you with a past client willing to speak candidly?
A firm confident in its work will happily show you projects that have aged, and put you in touch with the people who live with them.

Ask how they choose materials for the climate
This is where many projects quietly fail. Materials that look beautiful in a catalogue can crack, fade, stain or corrode under Abu Dhabi sun, humidity and salinity. A good pool and landscape company will talk specifically about water absorption, UV stability, heat reflectance and salt resistance, not just colour and style. If a company cannot explain why a particular stone or finish suits our conditions, be cautious. Thoughtful material selection is the difference between a garden that ages gracefully and one that needs replacing.
Check that design and build live under one roof
When the people who design a project also build it, intent survives all the way to the finished result. When design is handed to a separate, disconnected contractor, details get value-engineered away and accountability blurs. Ask who actually does the construction, who supervises it, and who you call if something is not right. Integrated landscape and outdoor living delivery, where one team carries the vision through, tends to produce far more coherent results.
Understand the after-care
A pool and garden are living systems that need ongoing care. Ask what happens after handover: is there guidance on maintenance, support if an issue appears, and a relationship beyond the final invoice? Companies that disappear at completion are taking a different view of quality than those who expect their work to be admired for years. For planning purposes, it helps to know what realistic upkeep looks like before you commit, something we also touch on in our thinking on landscape design for Abu Dhabi villas.
Trust how they communicate
Finally, pay attention to how a company treats you during these early conversations. Do they listen more than they pitch? Do they ask about how you live, not just what you want to buy? Are their answers honest, including about constraints and trade-offs? The way a firm communicates before you sign is the clearest preview of what working with them will feel like.
For what it is worth, these are exactly the standards we hold ourselves to at LEGO Design, a clear staged process, climate-led material choices, integrated design and build, and a relationship that lasts beyond handover. Whether you choose us or another firm, we hope this guide helps you choose well. If you would like to test us against it, start a conversation and judge for yourself.
